Paul's first exposure to film acting was at the age of 18 when he auditioned for and was cast in a hostage situation training video. He later auditioned for local theater companies and was cast in numerous complex and challenging roles which deepened his interest in and ultimately his love of acting. Subsequent film and television commercial roles, coupled with intensive studying with industry professionals, prepared him for a decision that would direct the course of his life. At the age of 22, having completed a double degree in Psychology and Philosophy, Paul auditioned for the University of Alberta's Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting program and was one of only a handful of applicants accepted to train at the theater school. Paul Welsh has acted as the historian for Elstree Studios since the 1970s and for 37 years has written a weekly column for the local press on the subject of the studios. Paul was awarded an MBE in 1997 for chairing a 8 year campaign to save Elstree Studios 1988-1996 and was chair of Elstree Studios Partnership Ltd from 1996-2000 during which time the studio was reopened, refurbished and expanded. His knowledge of all the studios in Elstree & Borehamwood, built up since his first childhood visit in 1960 and his role of chair of Elstree Screen Heritage resulted in the University of Herts awarding him an hon Master of Arts degree.

During his high school years, Paul was actively involved in theater studies, primarily in New York City. He attended Christian Brothers Academy, Marlboro High School, and Lakewood Prep. He studied theatre in both New Jersey and New York City and whilst in his junior year he landed the role of Max in The Guiding Light (1952). Due to his acting schedule, he transferred to several schools. He ultimately graduated in 2000 and went on to Rutgers University but, because he was being offered roles, decided to quit after one semester. In 2009 he was cast in The Vampire Diaries (2009). He has performed in numerous off Broadway productions as well as starred in dozens of films and television series throughout his career. Wesley is co-founder of Citizen Media, a production company based at Kapital Entertainment, which has sold numerous television shows to various networks and studios. He resides in New York City, Atlanta, and Los Angeles.
