Mike Lobel is an editor, director, composer and actor. Lobel was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. At a young age he began showing interest in music and visual arts which drew him to Etobicoke School of the Arts. He attended ESA from 1998 to 2003, first majoring in music (a skilled musician, he studied percussion) then later switching to dramatic arts. While attending the school he formed several musical groups including Civilian which would later become indie band Boys Who Say No as well as indie synth-pop band Future Peers. It was in his graduating year at ESA that he began working as an actor. In 2003 Mike made his acting debut in a film adaptation of Oliver Twist directed by Jacob Tierney entitled Twist. He played a small role as a street thug alongside actor Nick Stahl. He has appeared on television in Zixx: Level One, Sue Thomas F.B.Eye, The Best Years and HBO Max series Detention Adventure, and has starred in films Selling Innocence, Booky Makes Her Mark and more recently Suck. Mike's most notable performance to date is his portrayal of "Jay Hogart", a manipulative school bully on MTV's Degrassi: The Next Generation, as well as the role of DJ on Family Channel's Really Me. He maintains that he is nothing like his characters in real life. Mike had originally auditioned to play the role of "Dylan" on Degrassi and instead was offered the role of Jay. Continuing his work in film and television, this time behind the camera, Mike began his work as an editor in 2017. In 2019 he began editing HBO Max's Detention Adventure, a TV series for which Mike has both edited and directed. He is the oldest of three siblings.
